Thousands of young boys and girls are now reported to have been abused by members & priests of the catholic church for decades. Other religious groups and establishments are also known to have carried out abuse for years as well.

Reports indicate that the catholic church was aware of systemic abuse, but continued to hide the acts of priests and members of the diocese. Currently, more than 6,700 members of the catholic church have been accused of sexually assaulting and abusing young boys and girls.

A Recent court case in Pennsylvania exposed the "level of the deception" by disclosing to a jury close to a thousand instances of abuse that were kept secretive and hidden by the Pennsylvania Catholic church. Now in order to allow more victims to come forward, many states have expanded their statute of limitations on cases of abuse which allows victims to come forward for abuse that occurred many years ago to seek justice.
